As high school graduates decide on their future career, a growing number are opting for
trade jobs over college. This shift is driven by the desire to avoid college debt and
secure well-paying opportunities.
Financial considerations play a significant role. Over half of college graduates end up
working in jobs that don’t require a bachelor’s degree. Yet, trade jobs offer higher
starting salaries without the burden of student loans. In 2023, new construction hires
earned a median pay of $48,089, compared to $39,250 for new professional services
hires (Chen, 2024).
Gen Z’s preference for trade jobs signifies a pragmatic approach to career planning. By
choosing debt-free education and well-paying trades, they are redefining success and
ensuring financial stability. This shift underscores a broader societal recognition of the
value of skilled trades.
At Ramsons, we welcome this shift. Our goal is to grow as an organization by fostering
a legacy of new talent. Gen Z is challenging us to adapt and embrace innovation, a
challenge we eagerly accept.
To consistently achieve new goals and elevate our
standards, continuous learning and growth are essential. By bringing in new Gen Z
workers, we aim to build a generation of excellence, ensuring our legacy of excellence
continues.
